Front-running Connor’s Call, owned by Valene Farms, won the $91,485 colts and geldings division, while Marcia LaMarche’s Anything But Quiet came from off the pace to win the $93,685 fillies division of the Louisiana Futurity Friday at Fair Grounds.
Under jockey Jamie Theriot, Connor’s Call led wire-to-wire and held sway late to capture the male end of the Louisiana Futurity by four lengths for trainer Sturges Ducoing.
Connor’s Call paid $5, $2.40, and $2.10. The winner’s share of $54,891 increased his career earnings to $88,091. He toured the six furlongs in 1:12.18 after setting early fractions of :21.70 and :45.71.
Odds-on favorite Hallway finished second, paying $2.10 and $2.10, and it was another 4 3/4 lengths back to third-place Mo Cold, who returned $2.20 to show.
In the Futurity’s filly division, Anything But Quiet, trained by Victor Arceneaux, was unhurried early while saving ground, rallied boldly when set down for the drive and was up to be best by 1 1/4 lengths under six-time Fair Grounds leading rider Robby Albarado.
Anything But Quiet, a daughter of 1998 Kentucky Derby winner Real Quiet, covered the six furlongs in 1:12.61 and paid $16.80, $8.60, and $3.20. The $56,211 winner’s share increased her career earnings to $81,111.
The early fractions of :21.36 and :45.69, established by revolving early leaders, were just what Arceneaux expected.
"We thought we could come from behind with the pace we anticipated," said Arceneaux, "and she gave us everything."
Princess Deelite finished second, paying $5.40 and $2.80, while odds-on choice Huckie was third, another 4 1/4 lengths back. She returned $2.10 to show.
