Paraneck Stable's recent Lafayette Stakes (gr. III) winner Griffinite will race next in the $325,000 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) on April 21 at Keeneland, according to trainer Jennifer Pedersen.

"He had been training awesomely," Pedersen said. "We were very happy for the win, but we knew that it was a just a prep for the Lexington. He came out of the race full of himself. He knows he won."

Pedersen said a strong performance from Griffinite might convince her to enter him in the Kentucky Derby. "I don't want to commit him yet to the Derby, but that is a possibility," Pedersen said. "I like to get my horses back in the barn after a race and see how they're doing."

Griffinite (Unbridled's Song -- Copious, by In Reality) has won three of seven career starts for three different trainers and earned $140,732. Aside from his Lafayette win, he also finished third in the Nashua Stakes (gr. III), coming home behind only Ommadon and Windsor Castle in that one-mile race. He finished sixth and fifth in his two other stakes appearances, the Champagne (gr. I) and Remsen (gr. II) Stakes, respectively. Griffinite earned his maiden win in September, defeating Illinois Derby (gr. II) winner Distilled by eight lengths in a one-turn, one-mile race. The Todd Pletcher-trained Distilled will also make his next start in the 1 1/16-mile Lexington.

Griffinite delayed the start of the Lafayette by refusing to load into the starting gate. Pedersen said the colt will be schooled in the gate prior to the Lexington, where he will once again be ridden by Jose Santos.

Another being pointed toward the Lexington is the Michael Stidham-trained Stable Secret. "He's working well," Stidham said. "We're very happy with him. Mark Guidry will ride him."

Trainer Graham Motion will evaluate Sunday's Laurel Park work by Bay Eagle before deciding whether to enter the Secret Hello colt in the Lexington or Pimlico's Federico Tesio Stakes.
