Longtime trainer Kenneth Nesky died Dec. 15 due to complications of diabetes at the age of 64.

Nesky, a native of Long Island, won his first race as a trainer in 1974 at Liberty Bell. His best horse was Shopping for Love, a multiple stakes winning New York-bred that banked $600,000.

Before he turned to training, Nesky rode as a steeplechase jockey. In 2006, Nesky won one race from 27 starters in New York.

His wife, Gretchen and son, Chris, survive him. Family members are holding a private funeral service.
