Keeneland announced Dec. 14 that it has given more than $1 million in contributions to more than 80 charitable organizations in 2006.

Keeneland's charitable giving has totaled more than $15 million since its inception in 1936. The track made its announcement during its annual holiday luncheon.

Recipient organizations provide vital services to the central Kentucky community and to the Thoroughbred industry. Keeneland's charitable grants program is supported primarily by profits generated by Keeneland's Thoroughbred racing, simulcasting, and sales operations.

"Hosting this luncheon is our way of saying thanks to those who work so hard to make the Bluegrass community a special place," said Fran Taylor, executive director of the Keeneland Foundation.

"The staff and volunteers of these charitable organizations strive every day to improve the lives of thousands of central Kentuckians. This is an opportunity for us to recognize their efforts."
