American invader Campanile will face 10 foes in the third running of the Hakayama Grand Jump steeplechase at Japan's Nakayama Racecourse Saturday. It will be the second year that international horses will compete in the race. The race has a purse of $1.3 million (U.S.).

All starters will carry 137 pounds over the 2 9/16s mile turf course, which will include 12 jumps, including three hurdles set on the outside turf toward the final stretch, and five up-and-downs over banks. The only other foreign horse in the race will be New Zealand's Rand, who won the Pegasus Jump Stakes by six lengths March 24.

The Nakayama Grand Jump is for r-year-olds and up. Campanile will be ridden by Blythe Miller, and is trained by Janet Elliot.
