Keeneland Has Largest January Catalogue Ever
(Edited Keeneland press release)Keeneland has cataloged a record 2,933 lots, including four stallion shares, for its 2007 January horses of all ages sale. The eight-day auction will be held Jan. 8-15 in Lexington, with each session beginning at 10:00 a.m. (EST).The number cataloged exceeds by 425 last year's January sale mark of 2,508 head. In addition to the shares, there are 1,152 broodmares, 361 broodmare prospects, 224 racing or broodmare prospects, 90 racing prospects, 1,011 yearlings, 59 racing or stallion prospects, 27 stallion prospects, five stallions. Featured on Jan. 9 will be the complete dispersal of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., consigned by Claiborne Farm and Charlton. The dispersal will include broodmares, racing or broodmare prospects, racing prospects, stallion prospects and yearlings."The January sale has come into its own as a truly international auction, which is reflected in last year's record-breaking growth," said Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell. "We continue to expand the duration of the sale to accommodate our horsemen, who have come to view January as an extension of the November sale. This is a solid catalog which offers, in particular, a good selection of young racing and broodmare prospects." The January sale catalog will be available on line at www.keeneland.com beginning Dec. 4.Among the broodmares to be offered are ones in foal to such prominent stallions as Awesome Again , Dynaformer, El Prado, Elusive Quality , Forestry , Fusaichi Pegasus , Gone West, Johannesburg, Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Rahy, Silver Deputy, Thunder Gulch , and Tiznow .Also cataloged are mares in-foal to such promising freshman sires as Afleet Alex, Consolidator, Eddington, Eurosilver, Forest Danger, Leroidesanimaux, Limehouse, Offlee Wild, Pollard's Vision, Powerscourt, Rock Hard Ten, Roman Ruler, Saint Liam, and Southern Image.During the 2006 January horses of all ages sale, Keeneland sold 1,624 horses for $72,174,900, for an average of $44,443 and a median of $16,000. Additionally, a breeding right sold for $150,000 and three stallion shares sold for $4,200.
