Jockey Russell Baze broke out of a personal 11-race losing streak when Lainies Lion won the fifth race at Bay Meadows Saturday. When he won the following race as well, Baze drew within four of the all-time record for riding victories held by Laffit Pincay Jr.

The 48-year-old jockey has six mounts each on Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday's Bay Meadows cards as he drives relentlessly closer to the all-time mark of 9,530. After his seven rides Sunday – all favorites – Baze stands at 9,526.

Besides winning with 11-10 favorite Lainies Lion ($4.20) in a starter allowance at one mile on the grass, Baze also captured the sixth race. Star of Mearas ($5.20), the 8-5 choice in a field of 10, went gate to wire and won by a head over Con Officer in a $4,000 claiming race.

Baze also recorded two seconds and two thirds on the day. His only out-of-the-money result occurred in the first race when 7-10 pick Go Coyote Joe finished fourth.

He came home third in the third race aboard Regal Times, part of an even-money entry. Baze finished second in the fourth with the 5-2 choice Full Court Press and was third again in the seventh with 19-10 elect Dramatic. Baze completed his day with a runner-up showing on 2-1 favorite Alex and Me in the eighth race.
