Tiz Wonderful Odds-On Choice in KJC Stakes
The Kentucky Jockey Club shares top billing with the Golden Rod (gr. II) for juvenile fillies on the closing day of the 21-day fall meet at Churchill Downs.
Tiz Wonderful, a son of two-time Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Tiznow trained by Scott Blasi, was installed as the 4-5 favorite.
He dazzled Saratoga fans with a 12 ½-length win in his racing debut on Sept. 2. He then drew away in the stretch to score an emphatic 6 ¾-length victory in the one-mile Iroquois Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs Oct. 29.
The Kentucky Jockey Club will be the colt's first test at a two-turn distance and his first off of a relatively short rest.
"Chances like him don't come around all the time," said Blasi. "This is a test that will help us learn a lot about him, as he's running back in races four weeks apart. I'm excited about leading him over."
Jockey John Velazquez will ride Tiz Wonderful for the first time. The imposing bay colt will break from post three.
Top threats in the Kentucky Jockey Club include What A Tale, a New York-bred son of Tale of the Cat who rallied late to finish second in the Iroquois, and unbeaten Any Given Saturday, a son of Distorted Humor trained by Todd Pletcher.
Others are U D Ghetto, a troubled seventh behind Street Sense in the $2 million Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr, I), and Starbase, the third-place finisher in the Iroquois attempting to give Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas his fifth victory in the race.
$200,000-added Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II), 2-Year-Olds, 1 1/16 Miles
