Russell Baze draws within seven wins of all-time record; named to six mounts on Thanksgiving Day card.
Jockey Russell Baze won aboard each of the first four of his six mounts at Bay Meadows Wednesday and drew within seven of all-time leading jockey Laffit Pincay Jr.

Baze, who has 9,523 lifetime wins, is scheduled to ride six horses on Thursday, three horses on Friday and seven horses on Saturday, all at Bay Meadows.

On Wednesday, Baze started out with a three-length victory aboard 11-10 choice Dancing Rose ($4.20) for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer in the second race. The 48-year-old rider won the third race by 2 1/4 lengths aboard Harry J. Aleo's Quite a Rush ($2.80) for trainer Greg Gilchrist at odds of 2-5. Baze's victory in the fourth race came once more for Hollendorfer on the 3-5 favorite Glorification ($3.20) by four lengths. He also triumphed in the fifth aboard the Steve Miyadi-trained even-money quote Sophisticatedwager ($4), who rallied from far back to win going away by 1 1/4 lengths.

His other mounts Wednesday resulted in a fourth-place finish on 4-1 shot Judy's Way in race six – his only non-favorite on the day – and a second on the even-money pacesetter Elegant Ice in the seventh.

Baze is aiming for the all-time wins mark of 9,530 set by Pincay, who retired in 2003.
