Demi O'Byrne -- acting for Coolmore managing partner John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith -- set a record price for the Tattersalls December yearling sale in Newmarket, England Monday when paying 700,000 guineas ($1.39 million) for a Dalakhani -- Solo de Lune filly.
Offered in the Britton House Stud dispersal, the filly is a three-parts sister to Prix Saint-Alary (Fr-I) winner Cerulean Sky (by Darshaan) and Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) second L'Ancresse (by Darshaan).
Grant Pritchard-Gordon, accompanied by owner Paul Makin, went past 500,000 guineas for the filly, but O'Byrne's final opposition came from agent Brian Grassick. The Coolmore agent had earlier equaled the December yearling sale record price of 360,000 guineas when buying a colt by Dalakhani out of Lurina, a half-sister to Alidiva offered for Shirley Taylor's W Lazy T Ranch from Brian Grassick's Newtown Stud.
The December foal sale starts Tuesday.
