Jockey Jose Santos was injured in a spill during Saturday's first race at Aqueduct and took off his mounts for the rest of the card, although he was not hospitalized.
The spill occurred when Santos' mount, Christopher Nupp's Mountain General, broke down and fell at the head of the stretch. Gary Contessa trainee Fit Faze, under Eibar Coa, was unable to avoid the fallen horse and went down as well.
Santos and Coa were transported via ambulance to the track's first aid station, where Coa was examined and released with a minor contusion to his right shoulder. He returned to riding after taking off his mount in the third. Santos complained of dizziness and declined to ride his remaining four mounts.
Fit Faze was uninjued. Mountain General, trained by Rene Araya, was euthanized.
