William T. Young's champion Surfside was bred April 11 to major sire Danzig at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky. Surfside was retired in late March, and it earlier was announced by Young's Overbrook Farm that the daughter of Seattle Slew might be bred to Unbridled.
Surfside, who was produced from champion Flanders (by Seeking the Gold), won eight of 15 races and earned $1,852,987. The resulting foal from the Danzig -- Surfside mating will be inbred to Northern Dancer. The great stallion is the sire of Danzig and the grandsire of Surfside's second dam.
