Melbourne Carnival Breaks Attendance Mark

The four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival attendance record was smashed on Saturday when 78,158 people attended Emirates Cantala Stakes Day at Flemington.

The final day aggregate swelled to 418,049 the number of people to attend Flemington during the four days of the 2006 Melbourne Cup Carnival. That was more than 34,000 above the record 383,785 to attend the 2005 carnival.

The crowd also smashed the existing fourth day record of 61,382, also set last year.
