Jockey Russell Baze won five races Thursday at Bay Meadows and needs just 23 more to reach the all-time record for riding victories of 9,530 held by Laffit Pincay Jr.

Baze's five-win afternoon boosted his career victory total to 9,507.

The 48-year-old Baze swept the first three races with Aeblus ($7.80), Ultimato ($4.80) and Crowning Moossa ($5.80). After sitting out the fourth race, Baze took the fifth with Can I Call You Dad ($4.20).

Baze's perfect day ended in the sixth race when he finished fourth aboard 3-to-2 favorite Auriga, but he bounced back to win the seventh with Five Cents A Kiss ($5.60). Baze finished second with his final mount of the day, favored Wild Reflection, who was beaten 1 1/4 lengths by Rare Insight in the eighth race.
