Millennium Wind, winning the Santa Catalina Stakes, drilled a fast five-eighths of a mile Tuesday in preparation for the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.
Millennium Wind and Bonnie Scot, two colts who could compete in Saturday's grade I Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland, turned in impressive drills at the track Tuesday morning in preparation for the $750,000 event at 1 1/8 miles.
David and Jill Heerensperger's Millennium Wind, trained by David Hofmans, worked five furlongs in a rapid :58.40, easily the quickest of 11 works at the distance. The next-fastest works were tied at 1:01.
Millennium Wind, by Cryptoclearance, hasn't finished worse than second in four career starts. This year, he won the Santa Catalina Stakes at Santa Anita Park, and then finished second behind Fifty Stars in the Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds. At 2, Millennium Wind won his debut, then finished a close second in the Hollywood Futurity behind Point Given, currently the favorite to win the Kentucky Derby.
William Kelly's Bonnie Scot, trained by Roger Anderson, worked six furlongs in fast 1:13.60, co-fastest of two works at the distance.
In his last start, Bonnie Scot won the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park, then missed the Turfway Spiral Stakes as a precaution when it was deemed he wasn't at the top of his game. Bonnie Scot, a four-time winner at Turfway, has been in training since that time.
Other 3-year-olds being pointed to the Blue Grass are A P Valentine, Dollar Bill, Hero's Tribute, Invisible Ink, and Songandaprayer.
The $100,000 Lafayette Stakes, Wednesday's feature at Keeneland, also is for 3-year-olds. At seven furlongs, it lured some colts who appear better sprinters, including Tru Bull, winner of the Fort Springs Stakes at Keeneland last fall, and Yonaguska, winner of this year's seven-furlong Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
