Leading rider Rosie Napravnik was all smiles after winning Friday's fifth race at Laurel Park. She returned to the winners' circle atop Farah T Salute to pose with her sister Jasmine, who had just saddled her first official winner.
Jasmine, who is six years older than Rosie, 18, became a licensed trainer in August.
"It's awesome having Rosie as a sister," said Jasmine. "We rode together in junior pony races as children. Later I trained the horses and she rode for me. I have some steeplechase horses, but this filly is my only Thoroughbred in training right now."
"I know that filly really well. Jasmine bred her. It's kind of a special thing. It's her first official win," said Rosie. "My dad came down to be here. The filly felt great today. I knew the first time (at Colonial Downs) that she was going to win. I was really optimistic then and today I felt the same way."
It was business as usual for the eighteen-year-old rider as she won two races from five mounts on today's card. She has 255 winners this year and ranks sixth nationally. She's won 326 races since her career began in June 2005.
