In a continued effort to provide comprehensive service to its client base, Dapple Bloodstock and a small investment group have acquired a 900-acre parcel of land near Paris, Ky.
"This will provide Dapple, our partners and clients a 'home base' of operations for the breeding, boarding, and consignment of Dapple owned and managed Thoroughbred mares and produce," said Mike Akers, who owns and operates the company. "Our broodmare base got to the size where it made sense to purchase land."
The farm, named Dapple Stud, is located in the Southern portion of Bourbon County, approximately 10 miles Southeast of Paris, directly across Hwy. 627 from Stone Farm.
Stuart Morris of Highclere joins Dapple Stud as director of Thoroughbred operations. With the full support from his father, Jeffry Morris, Stuart can provide the daily leadership and oversight of Dapple Stud, yet maintain a peripheral management presence at Highclere as needed.
Akers said he had been looking at the land for about a year and acquired the parcel from Bill Perretti, a close friend and former owner of the Red Mile harness racing track in Lexington.
Perretti, who had previously kept numerous Standardbreds on the property, decided to downsize his stock about a year ago, which prompted Akers to inquire about purchasing part of his land.
The 900-acre area, complete with barns, stalls, and turn-out paddocks, is already occupied with 28 of Dapple's mares, which were previously boarded at various farms throughout Central Kentucky.
Akres, who plans to purchase more stock at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale Nov. 6, said Dapple Stud will help him and his partners to have a more "hands on" approach to raising their horses.
