(from Keeneland release)
A memorial endowment has been established in honor of Kathleen Riley Torok, a Keeneland employee who was killed in an automobile accident on Oct. 12.

The memorial fund will be administered by Blue Grass Community Foundation. An advisory committee comprised of Kathleen's family will oversee the distribution of the funds to various organizations and programs that reflect her interests.

Thoroughbred owner Martin Schwartz made the announcement of his intent to create the fund after he won Keeneland's First Lady Stakes on Oct. 14 and pledged 10% ($25,000) of his winner's purse from the race. Donations are coming in from a wide variety of Thoroughbred industry members, including many from Keeneland who wish to build a lasting legacy in Kathleen's memory.

"We are so deeply touched by this outpouring of love for Kathleen," said Dale Torok, Kathleen's husband of 17 years. "She was a very special person who was passionate about helping those in need. Through this endowment, we will be able continue supporting the many causes to which she contributed her time and talents."

Kathleen's parents, Shirley and Bill Riley, expressed thanks to "the donors for creating this fund honoring our daughter."
