Racing Commissioner Christine C. White today signed orders authorizing the 2007 live and simulcast horse racing calendar for Michigan's six pari-mutuel racetracks.
The 2007 live schedule calls for a total of 315 days of Standardbred racing at four locations, 100 days of Thoroughbred racing, and 35 days of Mixed Breed racing which includes Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Arabian, Appaloosa and American Paint Horse.
The Standardbred schedule begins Jan. 5 at Northville Downs with a 58-day meet that runs through April 14. Sports Creek Raceway in Swartz Creek will also start on Jan. 5 with 30 days of racing extending through March 11, followed by meets at Hazel Park Harness Raceway (108 days from April 20 through Oct. 9), and Jackson Harness Raceway (36 days from April 27 through July 21). Harness racing resumes at Sports Creek Raceway (40 days from Oct. 5 through Dec. 31) and Northville Downs (43 days from Oct. 17 through Dec. 29) to conclude the 2007 Standardbred schedule.
Great Lakes Downs in Muskegon will present the state's only all-Thoroughbred program. The 100-day meet will start May 5 and run through November 6. Mount Pleasant Meadows will also commence on May 5 and conduct a 35-day Mixed Breed meet with weekend racing through Sept. 23.
In addition to live racing, Michigan's six pari-mutuel racetracks will be open for full-card simulcast wagering throughout the year giving patrons the opportunity to wager on broadcast races from tracks across North America and other continents.
