Owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trainer Dale Romans, one of Kentucky's leading racing combinations, have separated after a partnership that lasted approximately five years.
"Dale and I had a very good run together," Ramsey said Oct. 31. "We had a lot of fun, he took us to a lot of big races. We just came to a parting of ways on more than one issue."
The 47 Thoroughbreds owned by Ramsey and formerly trained by Romans will be distributed to other trainers who are currently working for Ramsey, including Bobby Frankel, Steve Margolis, Ronny Werner, and Mike Maker. According to Ramsey, Maker will take 17 horses, while the owners' horses in training at Belmont Park will be shipped to trainer Charlton Baker at Finger Lakes before moving to Aqueduct with Baker's winter string.
While Romans trained 2004 Eclipse Award winner Kitten's Joy
for Ramsey, and also saddled Ramsey's 2005 Dubai World Cup winner Roses in May
, he may be best-known for pairing with the Ramseys to earn several meet-leading owner/trainer titles at Churchill Downs. The 40-year-old trainer said he has approximately 75 horses in training aside from those owned by the Ramseys.
