All-Source Wagering Jumps 6.7% at Belmont

Belmont Park's fall 33-day meeting concluded with increases in average daily attendance and all sources wagering after subtracting the figures from the 2005 Breeders' Cup World Championships, which was conducted at Belmont Park, to provide a more accurate depiction of business.

The New York Racing Association reported that attendance increased 1.3% to 4,629 daily, while all-sources wagering climbed 6.7% to $10,118,257 per day. On-track wagering remained even at $1,310,036 per day. The fall meeting concluded Oct. 22.

"The Belmont Fall Championship season has always enjoyed lofty status as one of the great race meets in America," said Bill Nader, NYRA chief operating officer.

Purses, which were up 4.5% at Saratoga, fell 5.1% to $557,114 at Belmont due in part to the realignment of the 2006 NYRA stakes schedule. Average starters increased 5.3% to 8.31 per race.

Through 208 race dates this year, NYRA all-sources wagering is averaging $10.7 million per day, up 2.3%.
