Simon Bray-trained Startac, who was scratched out of Saturday's Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), worked over Hollywood Park's main track Sunday in preparation for a start in Saturday's $200,000 California Derby at Bay Meadows.

Startac, a son of Theatrical out of Tenga, by Mr. Prospector, completed his six furlong work in 1:12 1/5 on a fast track. Startac was bred by the late Allen Paulson.

Startac's most recent race was at Golden Gate Fields, a disappointing second-place finish in the El Camino Real Derby (gr. III), in which he finished seven lengths behind Hoovergetthekeys.
