Chief Bearhart to Shuttle to New Zealand

Japanese stallion Chief Bearhart, who was a seven-time champion in North America for Ernie Samuel's Sam-Son Farm, will stand the 2001 Southern Hemisphere season at Glenmorgan Farm in New Zealand. Eight-year-old Chief Bearhart is owned by the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association and will stand for NZ$22,500. He currently holds court at Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan, and his oldest runners are yearlings.

Chief Bearhart (Chief's Crown -- Amelia Bearhart, by Bold Hour) earned an Eclipse Award as top grass runner in 1997 and won six Sovereign Awards, including two as Horse of the Year (in 1997-98). A $3,381,557-earner, he was purchased by the Japanese Racing Association in late 1998.
