Jockey Rodney Prescott earned his 2,000th career victory Oct. 18 at Hoosier Park when he guided the front-running Sefayoself to a convincing win in the third race of the evening.

"I didn't even realize that I was so close to 2,000 wins until someone told me before the start of the night," said Prescott. "I knew I had a couple of shots during Wednesday's card. I was hoping I didn't have to wait too long to reach 2,000, though."

In 2005, he finished second in North America for number of wins with 336.

"My season at Hoosier Park is going quite well for me," said Prescott, who ranks second all-time at Hoosier in riding victories, less than 25 behind Terry Thompson. "I just go out there and win as many races as I can. I don't really shoot for anything or any goal to start off a season."

He currently sits in second place in the jockey colony for 2006 at Hoosier Park with 33 wins.

Prescott picked up his first Hoosier Park riding title in 2005 when he won 81 races. He won the 1999 edition of the $100,000 Miss Indiana Stakes on Lady's Legal Ma Ja. Prescott has also been leading rider twice at Indiana Downs.

Prescott, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a native of Portland, Ind. He attended Jay County High School where he was a standout wrestler.
