Bluegrass Cat, a twice classic-placed grade I winner, will begin his stallion career in 2007 for a fee of $50,000 at Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt's WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky.

The 3-year-old son of Storm Cat is out of the A.P. Indy mare She's a Winner and is a half-brother to grade II winner Lord of the Game.

A WinStar homebred, Bluegrass Cat won the Haskell Invitational Handicap (gr. I) by a record seven lengths after running second in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Belmont Stakes (gr. I). He was retired because of an injury sustained in a runner-up effort in the Travers Stakes (gr. I) Aug. 26.

"Bluegrass Cat is the realization of a lot of dreams for everyone at WinStar Farm," said farm president Doug Cauthen. "He was bred, raised, and broken right here; so, to have him come home to WinStar as such an exciting stallion prospect is special."

Some of the mares WinStar has already committed to Bluegrass Cat are grade I winner Nany's Sweep; Brushed Halory, a graded stakes winner whose Storm Cat colt sold for $2.2 million as an auction 2-year-old this year; and With a Princess, dam of grade II winners The Daddy and With a City.

Bluegrass Cat, who was a grade II winner as a 2-year-old, retired with five wins and four seconds from 11 starts and earnings of $1,761,280.
