Business was sluggish Thursday during the first open session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. (OBS) fall mixed sale in Central Florida following three consignor-preferred sessions that started the five-day auction. The number sold, gross revenue, and average price all fell from a year ago for both yearlings and horses of other ages.OBS reported that the 18 yearlings sold grossed $54,200 and averaged $3,011. The 108 horses of other ages that sold grossed $487,200 and averaged $4,511.Last year, in the corresponding session, 31 yearlings sold for a gross of $97,300 and averaged $3,319. The 149 horses of other ages sold grossed $696,800 and averaged $4,677.A weanling colt from the first crop of the Grand Slam stallion Alke topped the session by selling for $34,000. Desdemona Land & Cattle purchased the dark bay or brown colt from Alidan Bloodstock. Produced from the 9-year-old unraced Holy Bull mare Holy Paree, the colt is a half-brother to winners Palm Beach Bud and Scatie Paree, both by Scatmandu. Their second dam, Bodacious Tatas, was a grade II winner. The auction ends Friday with an open session that begins at 10 a.m. (EDT).
