KTA and Turfway Park Award Scholarships Ten college and university students got lucky at the races Sept. 30, each winning $1,000 in scholarship funds from Turfway Park and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association. The scholarship giveaway was part of Turfway's Kentucky Cup Day of Champions.Students entered to win the scholarship funds by random drawing. The 10th drawing was open only to students affiliated with the Thoroughbred racing industry. Drawings one through nine were open to students without such an affiliation. Mitchell, Ky.; Northern Kentucky University; Criminal Justice David Schuchter; Alexandria, Ky.; Northern Kentucky University; Anthropology Michael Finlay; Cincinnati, Ohio; Muskingum College; Psychology Abigail Ashley; Louisville, Ky.; University of Louisville; Audiology (Ph.D. candidate) Jacqalynn Ammer Riley; Dry Ridge, Ky.; Northern Kentucky University; Organizational Leadership Amelia Baldree; Waterloo, Ill.; University of Louisville; Equine StudiesBaldree was the winner of the drawing held for industry-affiliated students. The scholarship program was established by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association in 2000. Including the funds awarded at Turfway Sept. 30, the KTA and participating racetracks have given away $190,000 since the program began. This is the second year Turfway has participated. |
