Indian Ink Spot on in Cheveley Park
Indian Ink celebrated her first victory at the highest level with a gutsy win in the Sky Bet Cheveley Park Stakes (Eng-I) at Newmarket on Friday. The Richard Hannon-trained filly was coming off a win in the Water ship Down Stud Sales race in her most recent start which happened to be just one week earlier, on September 22.Indian Ink went off the 3-1 co-favorite with the French raider, Magic America. The pre-race favorite, Sander Camillo, was scratched due to the soft turf conditions.Scarlet Runner and La Presse dueled up front for most of the six-furlong race, with jockey Richard Hughes content to sit just behind the leaders with Indian Ink. Hughes then sent the chestnut daughter of Indian Ridge to the front with two furlongs left. They were not alone, however, as Jimmy Fortune had his filly Dhanyata rolling alongside them. Dhanyata managed to stick her nose in front a few strides from the wire, but Indian Ink, who relished the soft going, battled back to win by a neck. Silca Chiave finished third.Indian Ink is by Indian Ridge out of Maid of Killeen, by Darshaan.
