Goffs' 2006 Million sale in Co Kildare, Ireland, concluded Thursday evening after a buoyant day's trade that helped produce a 59,158,000 euros gross (up 14.6% on 2005) for the 510 yearlings sold. The average price was 115,996 euros (+16.6%). The 70,000-euro median was up 7.6%."We are extremely satisfied with the results from this year's sale," said Goffs managing director Matt Mitchell. "The progression of the Million sale should be seen in the context of three years, and the trends shown this week, building on the success of inaugural Million in 2005, are very positive. We wish to acknowledge with gratitude the support of our vendors who have supported the sale by sending us better quality animals to sell. The purchasers responded accordingly, and we wish every one of them the very best of luck for the two valuable sales races next year."Barbara Facchino's locally-based Barouche Stud produced the day's - and week's - top price of two million euros near the close of business when outbidding Coolmore Stud's John Magnier to get a Sadler's Wells own sister to this year's Epsom Derby (Eng-I) second Dragon Dancer. The filly was purchased as a long-term breeding prospect.Kirsten Rausing, who bred the filly in partnership, consigned her from her Staffordstown farm.Earlier, Kilcarn Stud's owner Pat O'Kelly used the services of agent Johnny McKeever to spend 1.3 million euros on a Sadler's Wells three-parts sister to juvenile group 1 winner Second Empire. The filly was bred on a foal share and O'Kelly was buying her partner out.Horseracing Ireland chairman Denis Brosnan's Co Limerick-based Croom House Stud achieved a great pinhooking touch when reconsigning a Medicean colt that had cost 105,000 guineas as a foal at Tattersalls in November. His price tag this time around was 600,000 euros when selling to trainer Dermot Weld. The 600,000-euro price tag was earlier reached by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Estates Co. when collecting a blue-blooded King's Best colt consigned from O'Kelly's Kilcarn Stud.Goffs' two-day Sportsman sale begins Friday.
