Edited press release

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges has been appointed chief executive officer-designate of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and will take over from Lawrence Wong Feb. 1, 2007.

Engelbrecht-Bresges is currently executive director of the HKJC. Wong will retire Jan. 31, 2007, after 11 years as CEO.

HKJC chairman John Chan, in comments Sept. 27, emphasized the important role played by the incoming CEO in leading the staff not only in upholding the vision and mission of the club and implementing measures under the modernized betting duty regime, but also in further developing horse racing in Hong Kong.

Chan said that after a seven-month, worldwide recruitment exercise, the board of stewards selected Engelbrecht-Bresges based on his experience and achievement, both internationally and in Hong Kong.

In accepting the appointment, Engelbrecht-Bresges said: "It is one of my major challenges in life to be appointed as the chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and being charged with the tasks of driving the club's racing and football business through challenging times and serving Hong Kong and its people well. I am also proud to be leading one of the most magnificent and professional management teams."
