Keeneland November Sale Will Offer More Than 5,000 Horses

Keeneland has cataloged 5,026 horses for its November breeding stock sale in Lexington. Also cataloged is a season to Afleet Alex, with proceeds from its sale to benefit the charity "Alex's Lemonade Stand."

The 14-day auction will run from Monday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 19. Selling will begin at 10 a.m. each day.

The number of horses catalogued exceeds last year's total by 549. In the 2006 group are 2,495 broodmares, 2,106 weanlings, 184 broodmare prospects, 155 racing or broodmare prospects, 36 stallion prospects, 25 racing or stallion prospects, 19 racing prospects and six stallions.

The November sale catalogue will be available on Keeneland's Wweb site beginning Tuesday, Oct. 3. Catalogues will be mailed Friday, Oct. 13.

"Coming off a strong September sale, we have every reason to believe that momentum will carry forward to November," said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales. "As always, our November catalog offers an extensive number of stakes producers and stakes-winning fillies and mares, as well as weanlings by some of the hottest young sires around."

Scheduled to be offered are mares in foal to 293 different stallions, including A. P. Indy, Distorted Humor  , Dynaformer, Elusive Quality  , Forestry  , Fusaichi Pegasus  , Giant's Causeway  , Gone West, Kingmambo, Pulpit, Redoute's Choice, Seeking the Gold, Storm Cat, and Unbridled's Song.

The catalogue also includes weanlings by such young sires as Aldebaran, Empire Maker, Johannesburg, Mineshaft  , Officer, and Vindication. In addition, there are weanlings by Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Elusive Quality, Forestry, Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant's Causeway, Gone West, Montjeu, Mr. Greeley, Pivotal, Pulpit, Seeking the Gold, Storm Cat, and Unbridled's Song.

Last year's November auction established sale records for average price and median price. The average of $97,348 rose 5.6% over 2004's comparable figure, while the median increased 9.4 %to $35,000. Gross sales of $289,602,900 were up 3.5% over the previous year.

Champion Ashado brought a world-record Thoroughbred auction record price for a broodmare or broodmare prospect of $9 million from John Ferguson, acting on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed. She was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, as agent for owners Jack and Laurie Wolf, John Paul Saylor and Johns Martin.
