Van Nistelrooy Colt Tops Sunday Keeneland Session

A colt by Van Nistelrooy
brought a top price of $75,000 Sunday during the next-to-last session of Keeneland's record-breaking September Yearling Sale.
Sam Semkin, as agent for Jon Kelly, bought the chestnut colt out of Meadowfold, an unraced daughter of Meadowlake
. Upson Downs Farm, as agent, consigned the colt.
Van Nistelrooy's first foals are yearlings this year. He is a son of Storm Cat
With one day remaining in the 14-day auction, Keeneland has sold 3,376 horses for $398,325,500, an average of $117,987 and a median of $50,000. At this point in the sale a year ago, 3,391 horses had been sold for $383,024,600. The average was $112,953 and the median was $42,000.
During Sunday's session, 229 horses brought $2,208,700, an average of $9,645 and a median of $6,500. Last year, 223 horses sold for $2,223,600, an average of $9,971 and a median of $7,000.
The sale concludes Monday.
