The Keeneland sales barn was hit by heavy rains that swept through Kentucky overnight, canceling activites throughout the region.
Continued heavy rain overnight and into Sunday morning has forced Kentucky Downs to move its Kentucky Cup Turf Festival stakes card to Tuesday.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, the festival's stakes races had been reset for Monday after the Franklin, Ky., area was hit by extreme rainfall and tornado warnings. Additional bad weather caused a second postponement.
The four stakes races have been rescheduled as the first four races Tuesday. The nine original races carded for Monday will be run as the fifth through thirteenth races on Tuesday as well. Tuesday's original card has been canceled and will not be run, according to Ryan Driscoll, general manager at Kentucky Downs.
Driscoll cited safety concerns for the decision.
First post-time for the 13-race card Tuesday is noon CDT.
The $50,000 Yaqthan Stakes starts the Tuesday card, followed by the $100,000 Kentucky Cup Turf Dash, the $100,000 Kentucky Cup Ladies Turf and the $200,000 Kentucky Cup Turf (gr. IIIT).
