Island Fashion makes her last start in Breeders' Cup Distaff.
Everest Stable's three-time grade I winner Island Fashion is to make her final career start in the Nov. 4 Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) at Churchill Downs and then be sold as a broodmare prospect during the November breeding stock sales in Kentucky, trainer Julio Canani revealed Thursday.

The versatile 6-year-old Island Fashion worked a half-mile in :48 1/5 over a fast main track at Santa Anita on Sept. 20. In her last two races, both over the Del Mar lawn, the gray mare posted a pair of thirds in the John C. Mabee Handicap (gr. IT) and Palomar Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIT).

"She's going to start in the Breeders' Cup on the dirt," Canani said. "She's doing so awesome right now. She's going to race one more time in the Breeders' Cup and then she's going to the November sales in Kentucky."

Over four seasons of racing, Island Fashion has amassed a bankroll of $2,037,970 and a career line of 30-6-5-4. Though the Kentucky-bred daughter of Petionville   hasn't reached the winner's circle since the 2004 Lady's Secret Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) at Oak Tree at Santa Anita, she won the 2003 Alabama Stakes (gr. I) and La Brea Stakes (gr. I), and the 2004 renewal of the Santa Monica Handicap (gr. I). She also won or placed in 11 other black-type events and faced her male counterparts five times, producing a runner-up finish in the 2004 Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I).

"She's going to make a great broodmare," Canani said.
