Geary to Discuss Vision for Ellis Park at Meeting
Edited press releaseRon Geary, who is expected to close on his purchase of Ellis Park in late September, will discuss his vision for the western Kentucky racetrack at an Oct. 2 meeting of the Louisville Thoroughbred Club.Geary, former chairman, chief executive officer, and president of Louisville, Ky.-based ResCare Inc., in mid-July announced an agreement to buy the track from Churchill Downs Inc. Since then, Ellis Park has been awarded the 2007 Claiming Crown.Geary became interested in horse racing in his college days at the University of Kentucky when he would frequently visit Keeneland in Lexington. He once earned nearly $18,000 for a runner-up finish in a handicapping contest, and also counts a $300 win/place/show wager on Vision and Verse in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) that returned $9,000 among his top handicapping accomplishments.Geary has said Ellis Park, repaired by CDI after a November 2006 tornado hit the Evansville, Ind., area, can grow in stature as part of the Kentucky racing circuit. The track is scheduled to race from early July through Labor Day next year pending Kentucky Horse Racing Authority approval. The Thoroughbred Club meeting is open to all who are interested in hearing and meeting with Geary. The event will be held at the Kingfish Restaurant on River Road in Louisville beginning at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
