Buckingham Stables' 3-year-old filly A Sea Trippi defeated Running Bobcats by 2 ¼ lengths in the $100,000 U Can Do It Handicap for fillies and mares at showery Calder Race Course Saturday.

A Sea Trippi took the lead for jockey Eduardo Nunez after a quarter mile of the 6 1/2-furlong race and soon took command, giving trainer Ron Spatz his third win in the five runnings of the U Can Do It.

American Miss finished third.

Spatz won the race in 2002 and 2003 with Brazil Stable's Chispiski.

A Sea Trippi carried 115 pounds, four less than Running Bobcats.

Jockey Eduardo Nuñez rode A Sea Trippi to victory over a sloppy track. The Trippi   filly covered the distance in 1:18.09. Sent off as the third choice in the field of 10, she paid $12.20, $6.20, and $4.40 in her first start against older competition. Running Bobcats, the 2-to-1 post time favorite, returned $4.40 and $3. American Miss paid $5 to show.

The win marked A Sea Trippi's second victory of 2006. Her previous score was in the Harmony Lodge overnight stakes at Calder on May 12 at the same distance of the U Can Do It. Prior to Saturday's race, A Sea Trippi finished fourth in the six-furlong Azalea Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III) on Summit of Speed day.
