Sixties Icon, under a cool ride by Frankie Dettori, scored an emphatic 2½ length victory in the Ladbrokes St. Leger Stakes (Eng-I) at York on Saturday.In doing so, Sixties Icon led the way for a 1-2-3 sweep by offspring of Galileo in the final British classic of the season. It was quite an impressive accomplishment by the former Vodafone English Derby (Eng-I) winner, whose first crop are 3-year-olds this year.With Doncaster Race Course currently undergoing renovation, the 230th running of the St. Leger took place at York for just the second time, with the only other occasion being in 1945. York was more than an able substitute, with over 31,000 racing fans turning out.Dettori rode confidently on the race favorite, holding him up near the rear of the pack for the first 12 furlongs. The pair then began to move smoothly through the field with just over two furlongs left. When Dettori asked his mount to go, the response was immediate and Sixties Icon hit the front and easily held off 50-1 shot The Last Drop. Red Rocks was another length back in third.Sixties Icon is trained by Jeremy Noseda and is owned by Susan Roy. His connections indicated after the race that the colt may be supplemented to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I).Sixties Icon is a 3-year-old bay colt by Galileo out of the Vodafone Oaks (Eng-I) victress, Love Divine, by Diesis.
