Niigon to Colebrook in Canada
Canadian classic winner Niigon will enter stud at John Burness' Colebrook Farms Stallion Station near Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada. The 5-year-old son of Unbridled will stand for $5,000 live foal (Canadian funds).Niigon was a Sovereign Award finalist as a 3-year-old in 2004 after capturing the Queen's Plate Stakes at Woodbine and finishing a head back in a runner-up effort in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie. He also placed that year in the Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga and the Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine.Niigin, who raced as a homebred for the Krembil family's Chiefswood Stable, placed in four other stakes, including the Grey Breeders' Cup Stakes (Can-II) as a 2-year-old and the Dominion Day Handicap (Can-III) at four. He retired earlier this year because of an ankle chip with a record of four wins from 23 starts and earnings of $1,099,532.Niigon is a half-brother to the dam of grade I winner Island Sand. His stakes-placed dam, Savethelastdance (by Nureyev), is a half-sister to three-time Canadian champion Eternal Search.
