Edited press releaseThe "Road to the Breeders' Cup World Championships – Powered by Dodge" will present live coverage of the Woodward Stakes and Forego Handicap (both gr. I) Sept. 2 on ESPN from 4:30-5:30 p.m. (ET). In the Woodward, Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness stakes (gr. I), faces the Todd Pletcher-trained Flower Alley. Funny Cide is coming off a win in last month's Dominion Day Handicap (Can-III), while Flower Alley won the Salvator Mile Stakes (gr. III) earlier this year and was second in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I), after winning the Travers Stakes (gr. I) and Jim Dandy (gr. II). Also set to run are Suave, winner of the Washington Park Handicap (gr. II), and Sun King, who finished second in both the Metropolitan and Whitney Handicaps (both gr. I). Flower Alley finished seventh in the Whitney. Sun King's trainer Nick Zito is also likely to saddle Andromeda's Hero and possibly Wanderin Boy. Rounding out the field are Premium Tap, Papi Chullo, Second of June, and Wild Desert. The last three winners of the Woodward have gone on to earn Horse of the Year honors. The Zito-trained Commentator, who won a minor stakes race at Belmont last month in his first effort in seven months, heads the Forego, a seven-furlong contest. Expected to challenge Commentator is War Front, winner of the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II). Other likely starters include Awesome Twist, Greeley's Galaxy, Nightmare Affair, Pomeroy, and Silver Wagon. Listed as possible starters are Judiths Wild Rush, Mister Fotis, and Swingforthefences.
Hosting from Saratoga will be Kenny Mayne, joined by analysts Jerry Bailey and Randy Moss and reporter Jeannine Edwards.
