The $2 Kentucky Lottery Breeders' Cup scratch-off ticket has been one of the most successful scratch-off tickets in the Kentucky Lottery Corporation's history. The 960,000 tickets went on sale July 21st and were expected to last anywhere from 12 to 15 weeks at retail locations. However, nearly all the tickets left the KLC's warehouse just three weeks into sales.
"The rapid sellout demonstrates the strong appeal of this game to both lottery players and horse racing fans," said Kenneth Kirchner, senior vice president of development for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. "The Kentucky Lottery staff has done a tremendous job with the game and we're very pleased additional tickets will now be available."
"Our players have overwhelmingly responded to this ticket," said KLC senior vice president of sales and marketing Steve Casebeer. "We think they really enjoy the unique playstyle of the ticket and the incredible second-chance promotion tied to it. We've been able to scramble and order an additional 480,000 tickets which should arrive at retailers by next weekend (August 26th), so players will still be able to find tickets to enter into the second-chance drawings before the September 15th entry deadline."
This year's Breeders' Cup World Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs.
A handful of the tickets were held back so they could be sold at the KLC's booth at the Kentucky State Fair starting this Thursday.
The KLC and the NTRA teamed up to provide 10 exclusive grand-prize packages for second-chance winners which include:
- Accommodations at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville for two nights;
- Transportation to the track on Breeders' Cup Day;
- Tickets to the Breeders' Cup;
- Tickets to the track (with food vouchers) on Friday, Nov. 3;
- Access to an expert handicapper on Breeders' Cup Day;
- A $500 betting voucher;
- $500 in spending money;
- A Breeders' Cup press kit, and;
- An invitation to the Breeders' Cup post-race reception.
Players can enter the second-chance promotion via U.S. mail or through the Kentucky Lottery Web site. Five winners will be chosen from mailed entries, and the other five from Internet entries. Players who submit Internet entries must retain their tickets as proof of purchase and submit the winning ticket within 10 days of notification.
All entries must be received by Sept. 15, and the grand prize drawings will be held Sept. 19.
