Canterbury Park will honor their 2006 Hall Of Fame inductees Aug. 12 with a breakfast at 10:30 a.m. This year's class will include owner Tom Metzen and trainer David Van Winkle. The two men will be the 37th and 38th members inducted into the track's Hall of Fame.
In the past, Metzen has served as chairman of the Minnesota Racing Commission, as well as director and president of the Minnesota Thoroughbred Association. He is the current director and president of the Minnesota Horseman's Benevolent and Protective Association and director of the national HBPA.
"I am thrilled to be included in the Hall Of Fame," said Metzen. "Canterbury has always been my home, and this is just wonderful."
Van Winkle won with his first eight starters at Canterbury Park and was crowned champion trainer in 1995, 2002, and 2003, with runner-up efforts in 1996, 2000, and 2001.
"I am very humbled by this--it will be an honor to be included in the Hall," Van Winkle said.
