Jockey Timothy Thornton, thrown when his mount in the ninth race, Strategic Sun, broke through the inside rail on the Arlington Park turf course, was taken directly to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Thornton was conscious and alert when he was transported to the hospital.
Strategic Sun, at odds of 35-1, was leading by more than a length in the $30,000 maiden special weight event at one mile when he ducked through the rail, dropping Thornton and running off through the infield. There was no word from the track on the horse's condition.
