(from Del Mar notes)Brother Derek, fourth-place dead heater in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), continued his forward training with a bullet :47 2/5 clocking for a half-mile Thursday morning on the main track.
Del Mar clockers labeled the work as "breezing," and trainer Dan Hendricks agreed with that. "It was a breeze. He started out easy on the first eighth of a mile and then grabbed the bit and went really nice from there," the trainer said.
"He's back where we want him and we'll go right to five-eighths and three-quarters (work distances) from here," he added. The trainer said he may run the colt next in Del Mar's El Cajon Stakes for 3-year-olds on Sept. 2.
Hendricks' assistant, Francisco Alvarado, was in the irons for the work.
Trainer Bob Baffert sent out Triple Crown also-ran Bob and John to sizzle through a five-furlong work in :58 1/5, the best of 61 at the distance.
The Tin Man worked a mile in 1:39 2/5 as trainer Richard Mandella considers a start in the Arlington Million (gr. IT) on Aug. 12 for the 8-year-old gelding.
