(from Ellis Park report)
Ellis Park was forced to cancel the second half of Friday's race card after a strong line of thunderstorms containing straight-line winds caused the track as well as a large portion of the City of Henderson, Ky., to lose power.

Racing officials had just completed the fourth race on the nine-race program when the storms arrived. The racetrack lost power at approximately 2:25 p.m. CDT. After consulting with state racing officials, Ellis Park management decided to cancel the remainder of the race card (races 5-9) one hour later when it became apparent power would not be restored in time to resume live racing.

Race fans at Ellis Park took shelter in the facility's historic grandstand during the storms. As the fourth race had already concluded, there were no horses in the paddock at the time the storms rolled through.

Ellis Park issued free admission passes to patrons leaving the Friday and customers who save their daily racing program for the July 21 race card can exchange it for a free program when they next return to the track. Wagers on the canceled races are to be refunded.
