Stronach Stable and jockey Todd Kabel have appealed separately to the Ontario Racing Commission the Fort Erie stewards decision to disqualify Malakoff from Sunday's $500,000 Prince of Wales.
Trainer Brian Lynch, acting on behalf of the Stronach Stable July 19, appealed the decision itself while Kabel is challenging a three-day suspension the stewards handed down in the wake of the disqualification.
Malakoff, who won the Prince of Wales by 1 1/2 lengths, was disqualified for interference from the win position and placed fifth. Shillelagh Slew was placed first, Pipers Thunder second, Royal Challenger third and Edenwold, the Queen's Plate winner, fourth.
Malakoff is the first horse in the 71-year history of the race to be disqualified from the win position.
