Trainer Bruce Headley and his son, Gustav Headley, were fined $1,500 apiece by Hollywood Park stewards after they were found to have violated training rules stemming from the seventh race on July 4 at the Southern California track.
The Headleys were also placed on probation for the remainder of 2006.
In a decision reached July 13, stewards ruled that Gustav Headley, a licensed exercise rider, had saddled the 3-year-old filly Kalookan Lessie to victory without a trainer's license. They also found that he had violated workers' compensation insurance rules.
Bruce Headley was listed as the trainer of Kalookan Lassie, but he was not present for the race, according to the CHRB. Stewards ruled the elder Headley violated rules covering employment of an unlicensed person and failing to perform duties of a trainer.
