Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Jazil has been sent to owner Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Farm near Lexington for 30 days to recuperate from a bruised cannon bone on his right hind leg, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Tuesday.

McLaughlin said the son of Seeking the Gold will be forced to miss the Aug. 26 Travers Stakes (gr. I), but he hopes to have him ready for the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) Oct. 7.

"He worked a half-mile on July 1, and then galloped for a week and jogged, and we weren't real happy with the way he was going," McLaughlin said. "We've walked him since the 10th, and then did scintigraphy, which showed he had slight bruising of the hind cannon bones, the right more than the left. (Racing manager) Rick Nichols and Sheikh Hamdan decided to take him to the farm for a couple of weeks and monitor him there. He just arrived there (Monday). It's nothing serious; he just wasn't quite 100%.

"Obviously, he isn't going to make the Travers, so we'll get him back here, and hopefully, he won't lose much conditioning. He doesn't need much as far as work goes, because he's a light-framed horse, so the Gold Cup would be perfect. Rick is down there in Kentucky, and he and the vet will monitor him. This is very minor. He's a happy guy right now. We just wanted to give him the 30 days and do the scintigraphy there and X-ray him digitally to make sure everything is OK. If he can't make the Gold Cup, the next goal would be the Breeders' Cup."

In addition to his Belmont victory, Jazil was second in the Wood Memorial (gr. I) and dead-heated for fourth in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
