The Nicolas Clement-trained Stormy River went from last to first to land the Prix Jean Prat (Fr-I) in impressive fashion at Chantilly on Sunday.
The grey son of Verglas delivered his late run under jockey Thierry Thulliez to win comfortably by ½-length over Kentucky Dynamite. Dilek, owned by H.H. The Aga Khan, finished one length back in third.
This was the second victory in the race for trainer Clement and owner Ecurie Mister Ess A. S. They teamed to win the 2003 Prix Jean Prat with Vespone.
Plans are undecided yet as to where Stormy River will run next. Clement told reporters, "The Queen Elizabeth II (Eng-I) would be a nice target, as 3-year-olds have quite a good record in it. I think the Sussex Stakes (Eng-I) could come a bit too quick for him and I want to keep him at a mile this season, so that rules out the Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I) this year. I don't want to take him over for the Breeders' Cup, either."
