Captain Steve, on the strength of his win in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I), surpassed Tiznow in the latest NTRA National Thoroughbred poll released Tuesday afternoon.
The weekly poll is compiled by ranking the votes of Thoroughbred racing media and it covers the racing performances through March 25.
Mike Pegram's Captain Steve, who was second in the poll last week, received 13 of the 20 top votes. Second-place Tiznow was named No. 1 on the other seven ballots.
Last year's champion sprinter Kona Gold held his No. 3 spot in the poll. Rounding out the top 10 were: Albert the Great (moving up one notch from a week ago after winning the Widener Handicap, gr. III), Wooden Phone, Point Given, Golden Ballet, Monarchos, Heritage of Gold, and Perfect Sting.
On the NTRA Three-Year-Old poll, The Thoroughbred Corp.'s Point Given remained No. 1 on the strength of 12 of the 20 top votes. Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Monarchos received seven No. 1 ballots and remained in second place. Dollar Bill is ranked in third.
The Three-Year-Old poll, which will be compiled each week through the running of the Travers Stakes (gr. I) in August, was filled out by (No. 4) Millennium Wind, Hero's Tribute, Street Cry, Outofthebox, A P Valentine, Golden Ballet, and Fifty Stars.
