California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday the appointment of horse owner John Amerman to the California Horse Racing Board.
Amerman, 74, of Palos Verdes Estates, has served on the executive committee for the national Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association since 2003 and recently was one of 13 elected to the Breeders' Cup board of trustees and members.
Amerman has also been a member of the Winners Foundation and has served on the board of directors for Tranquility Farm since 2001. He previously served as chair and chief executive officer for Mattel from 1987 to 1998. The appointment of Amerman, a Republican, is subject to state Senate confirmation.
Among the horses campaigned by the Amerman Racing Stable of John and Jerry Amerman have been grade I winners Balance, Adoration, Happyanunoit, Siphonic, Lido Palace, and Spoken Fur.
